YOUTH REPRESENTATIVE
OAKMONT/Verona COUNCIL
The Oakmont and Verona Borough Councils seeks to find a student representative to serve on each council. The Youth Representative Program will allow for students living in Oakmont and Verona to engage in Borough government and develop leadership skills. It will also enables officials in each borough to mentor students who will be future community leaders.
The YR Program will allow high school juniors and sophomores the opportunity to learn critical skills, including team building and collaboration, public speaking, public engagement, budgeting, and running effective meetings. It will provide students the opportunity to deliberate on issues that are affecting their community
Job Duties & Requirements
- Attend monthly council meetings and workshops
- Oakmont: 1st and 3rd Tuesdays at 7:00 pm
- Verona: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at 7:00 pm
- Voice concerns, interests, and pose questions that represent youth values and interests.
- Encouraged to participate in annual budget meetings and other public meetings – including any commissions and committees
- Create a borough service project
- Establish links between student voice and local organizations a member of the Communications Committee (Oakmont Representatives only)
- Attend tours scheduled of Borough facilities as schedule permits
Eligibility
- Be a current 10th or 11thgrade student.
- Be an Oakmont or Verona resident
- Be comfortable serving as the voice of your generation
- Commit to a minimum one-year term (Jan-Jan)
represent the voices of Oakmont & Verona youth
How to Apply
- Candidates apply online at https://tinyurl.com/youthrep2026 by 3:00pm Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
- Interviews will be scheduled the week of Dec. 15 after school hours on Google Meet.
- A selection committee will review each candidate’s abilities, may choose to conduct interviews, and ultimately make a decision based on the candidate’s qualifications.
- We are hoping to have at least one tenth and one eleventh grade member serving EACH council.
- If we are successful in finding candidate(s), we will move to approve this program to start in the 2026 year.
