The Oakmont Library and the Oakmont Historical Society present… The Do-It-Yourself Mystery Walk! This self-guided walking tour, a free booklet that guides you through Oakmont’s spookiest stories, will be available at the library at 700 Allegheny River Boulevard and the Oakmont Historical Society Center at 628 Allegheny River Boulevard from October 1st – October 31st. The DIY Mystery Walk booklet features seven stories by Gary Rogers – all true mysteries that have been passed down through generations of Oakmont residents – and an easy-to-follow map that takes you along Allegheny Avenue, up Delaware, and down Fourth Street. Use the map, follow the route, and read the stories inside the booklet to learn about these terrifying tales from our town… If you dare!
Makerspace Hours: Felt Like Sewing: Spooky or Not-So-Spooky Eyeballs!
Join us in the Makerspace each month, where we’ll provide a different felt sewing project you can make using our stuff! Materials will be available any time the Makerspace is OPEN. Need help? Come to Stitch Support!
Oct. 7th, 6:30 p.m., Oakmont Historical Society Speaker: ‘Rebuilding the Boulevard’
Join us for the monthly meeting of the Oakmont Historical Society. In 1926 work began on the Allegheny River Boulevard project which connected Oakmont and Verona to Pittsburgh. By 1934 the new roadway reached Oakmont. See what the boulevard in Oakmont looked like prior to and during the reconstruction of the street.
Oct. 8th, 6:00 p.m., Beginner AI Class: Demystifying Artificial Intelligence for Everyone
Join us at the library to learn about Artificial Intelligence! This talk will enable you to cut through all the noise about AI, show you how AI can be used in your daily life and business, and provide you with a basic understanding of the capabilities and limitations of this technology. This will include applying this technology through simple interactive use cases to illustrate how AI could work for you. Dan Seitam lives in Oakmont and is a Principal at Black Ice Strategies, a management consulting firm.
This class will be held at our Adult Computer Pod on our main floor so that everyone can use a computer for the interactive elements. Attendance is limited to 7 people. Please register for this program.

Join us at the library during Fire Safety Week for a special story time with the Oakmont Fire Department!
Oct. 12th, 12:00 p.m., Crochet Pumpkins: Registration Required
Come join us in making these festive fall crochet pumpkins with cinnamon stick stems! A basic knowledge of crochet is suggested (know how to make a chain and how to single crochet). The stitches that will be used to make these pumpkins are: chain, single crochet, half double crochet, and the bobble stitch. We’ll provide yarn, cinnamon sticks, Polyfil, and crochet hooks. We’ll be using a worsted weight yarn, but if you’d like a bigger pumpkin feel free to bring in your own thick yarn and needle!

Not confident in your sewing skills? Attend the monthly Stitch Support group, where Ms. Kelsey G will be in the Makerspace to help you thread your needles or teach you how to do different types of stiches.

Join us for the Paint Pals Pumpkin Party! Choose either a paper mâché pumpkin, or a ceramic jack-o-lantern, first come first serve! There will also be a decoupage option available.

Come join us for this Halloween themed event! With little glass vials, paper, gems, and any tiny things you’d like to place in and set a positive intention we’ll craft and seal our “spell” jars.

Oct. 24th, 6:00 p.m., Animals of the Night with Humane Animal Rescue of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh
Do you ever wonder which animals are on the prowl outdoors when you are asleep? How do they adapt and navigate the world when the sun goes down? This program answers these questions and even gives a glimpse into how you can help these nocturnal native! There will also be a super awesome live animal ambassador visiting us! Who is it? You’ll have to come to find out!
Recommended for elementary ages, teens, and families, but all are welcome!
Big Bag Book Sale November 2nd, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Join us for our semi annual BIG BAG BOOK SALE which will take place in The Squirrel’s Nest Bookstore and the rest of the lower level of the library. All ages will enjoy searching for great books. Bring the family and friends and enjoy a day of book hunting! $5 a bag (we provide the bags).
There will also be a separate room with Antique and Collectable books and signed copies at special prices!
(The Squirrel’s Nest will be closed for a week following the sale to reorganize and will REOPEN on Monday, November 11th!).
