Meditation with the Monks: August Every Tuesday (In-Person & Livestream), 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m.
The monks from the Pittsburgh Buddhist Center have returned to teach in-person meditation classes at the library, but you also have the choice to watch the livestream at home on their YouTube channel, PBC Live.
Book Bingo for Adults and Families, Wednesday, August 7th, 2:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m.
Join us at the library every other Wednesday at 2pm from June 12 to August 7 for Book Bingo – play Bingo, win books! We’ll have a variety of books and small prizes for winners to choose from. Come relax and have fun! Book Bingo is for adults and families – no unattended children, please, but family groups are welcome. Dates: June 12 and 26, July 10 and 24, and August 7.

Cookbook Club in the Park, Monday, August 12th, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Cookbook club dinners will be held at a picnic shelter in Riverside Park during the summer months, weather permitting. You will be notified of changes due to inclement weather by email.
Do you love to browse through cookbooks and try new recipes? Are you a foodie? Would you like to meet new people and share food with them? Then this is the club for you! Each month, we will select a cookbook and keep it at the circulation desk. Look through the book and choose a recipe you want to make. Mark the page with a post-it note with your name so that we know who will be cooking what. Copy the recipe to take home. Prepare your food or beverage and bring it to Cookbook Club, which will take place on the second Monday of every month at 6pm. Please bring your own drinks and utensils. Food, new friends, and fun! Please join us and start cooking! Open to adults and families.

Concert on the Library Lawn with the Lions Club Band, Monday, August 19, 2024, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The 15-piece band composed of Lions Club members will entertain you with a variety of tunes.

Chess with Craig & Adam for ages 8-19: Mondays- 3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.
Students can join in anytime between 3:30-4:30, and registration is not required
Learn the classic game of chess. Lessons include; introducing the pieces & how they move, opening moves & setups, controlling the center & the mid game scenarios, end game checkmating & proper chess educate, and chess as an exercise in problem solving.
The class will start with a lesson and then allow time for live practice.

Come join us every month for our new Homeschool Hour at the library from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Each class we’ll learn about a different piece of music and corresponding literature or art. Makerspace Programs
Makerspace: After Hours- Drawing Club, Mondays, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Drawing club (no paints) welcomes adults 18+ to join us every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m -7:30 p.m. to relax with some simple or detailed drawing time. All skill levels welcomed. Although this group does not have a specific art teacher, we learn from each other based on our various range of experiences. Registration is required. Art supplies available or bring your own. Come by & enjoy some art with us.

Located on our Lower Level, we have a 3D printer, a Cricut vinyl cutting machine, a Brother sewing and embroidery machine, and a music station with midi keyboards, a microphone, and recording software! We also have art and crafts supplies, Snap Circuits, VR goggles, a button maker, two Makey Makey keyboard controllers, and more.
During our open hours, the Makerspace will be open to the public and librarians will be on hand to supervise, answer questions, and offer arts and crafts supplies available so you can get creative. No registration required, just stop by.
Would you like to use our equipment? We can give you training that will allow you to use our equipment during Makerspace hours. Contact Stephanie Zimble at zimbles@oakmontlibrary.org to make an appointment for training.
Kids under 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when using our equipment. All Makers must receive training before they will be permitted to use our equipment.
