Was there a notice Duquesne Light Company (DLC) hanging on your doorknob? Have you seen orange markings (đźź ) on Borough Trees in front of your residence or along your daily walks? You asked, we investigated, and we have information.
In 2025, DLC will be conducting utility vegetation management in Oakmont. Fortunately, the marked trees are in the public right-of-way and under the watchful eye of the Borough’s Shade Tree Commission (STC). The DLC notices seem to indicate that these trees are on private property, which you probably know are not. The notice can be confusing and misunderstood.
Another challenge, the doorhangers are worded that the trees can ultimately be removed; which is not accurate. Any tree, public or privately owned, can be retained with proper pruning. That is an option that is not widely known or shared. So, if you get a doorhanger or are approached by a DLC representative, know that tree removal is not required.
We do know a representative of DLC is canvassing the Borough working through their scope of work for 2025. We have advised DLC that the Borough owns what we all affectionately call “Borough Trees” and representatives of the STC and Borough administration will be meeting over the months to review the proposed work.
