The history of the Oakmont Carnegie Library finds its beginning in the late 18–‘s when the Oakmont School Board acted on a resolution providing a place and free public library for the use of the residents. Through the years the School Board oversaw the staffing and maintenance of the Library. In 1966 that changed when the Borough of Oakmont assumed control of the library. The value of the library to the community was recognized by Council and in 1969, created a Library board to oversea, operate and maintain the library.
