It looks like Spring has finally arrived. Daffodils are in bloom, squirrels are busy hunting for nuts and berries, and I am working hard to provide Oakmont with a myriad of resources and opportunities. Below is a list of some of the projects I have been working on:

2022 Glass Recycle Events will be held April 11-22, August 8-19, and December 5-16. Glass Recycle Dumpsters will be located at Riverview and Creekside Parks.

The Hard to Recycle Event will be held July 30, 2022, in the Second Street Parking Lot of Riverview Park. Accepted items include: televisions, computer monitors, fluorescent light bulbs, paint, batteries, and more. Reservations are required for this event.

Eligible families are now able to sign up for the Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP) to get assistance with paying past due sewage bills, or for the restoration of services.

The Borough has partnered with Solar United Neighbors (SUN), a co-op that offers a free review of your roof to evaluate if solar panels will work for you, one-on-one support for any questions about going solar, and individual proposals for solar at a bulk rate. Oakmont Borough is now a member of Live Well Allegheny. Live Well Allegheny is an initiative of the County’s Health Department, and is a campaign to improve the overall health and wellness of its residents. They will participate in many 2022 Oakmont events.

In response to the increase in Electric Vehicles traveling in and around Oakmont, the Borough has plans to install stand-alone, and pole mounted charging stations throughout Oakmont.

The recently adopted 2022 Comprehensive Plan has a Climate Action Plan component.

The Borough plans to conduct energy audits on its buildings, implement a data story telling campaign, and participate in sustainable community development programs.

You can expand your recycling efforts to include kitchen scraps and yard debris into available resource for your garden. Sign up now for a Backyard Composting Workshop. The Borough would like to get more residents and businesses interested in composting.

Lastly, the Borough is in the process of identifying vacant properties for an Oakmont Borough Community Garden.
